Problem
Problem Statement
-
Students struggle at home and need help with math homework when their teacher is not available.
-
There have been some effective attempts at creating math-solving tools by the competition but they can't replace a teacher's help and guidance at the moment.
-
Let's say a student has a word math problem they need help with. How might we transform this math problem into the correct math equation, give tips on how to solve it effectively, and give guidance on where to look for related study materials?
-
At the moment we mainly serve teachers with our math resources, but if we want to attract students, we need to offer them the help and tools that are specific to their needs

Context & opportunity
What problems are we solving?
The project aims to better understand students' experiences in math learning and help them with any math-related homework at home.
What are we building?
We are building a Web Solver application that can help students solve any math equation or word math problem, and guide them through the steps, give them tips if necessary.
Why is this important?
With the rising need for digital learning tools, we have the opportunity to make learning fun and struggle-free for students. Our new tool will attract a new user group (students) to our company.

Product Strategy

Challenges
-
Showing too much information at once -> Overwhelms the learner
-
Difficult to align explanations to the right spot -> can be confusing for the student
-
This kind of interface can easily encourage passive reading -> That is not a good way to learn
-
Static versus interactive approach
-
When an explanation is not enough -> Find way to help the student with tips, learning materials

Solution
Prototype

Usability testing
At GeoGebra, we prioritize usability testing to ensure our math education tool is user-friendly and effective for our students. We conducted testing on a low-fidelity prototype with 6 students, making adjustments based on their feedback and validating our solutions with the remaining 2 users. Through this process, we were able to refine our tool and ensure an optimal user experience for all students.
Final UI design
The UI design of this project was part of a larger rebranding effort. We kept the original brand colors but upgraded our design system and illustrations.

Final design elements:
-
Using light grey as a background color
-
New custom illustrations with watercolored texture
-
Purple as primary and teal as secondary color
-
Rounded edges and circles for a friendlier look
-
Clean and minimalistic interface
